Akka Pendant

Akka is a female spirit in Sámi mythology, who are thought to live under the Kota tents. This antler pendant depicts Maderáhkka (the first Akka or mother) who receives the soul of a child from Radien (supreme deity) and gives it a body. She is assisted by her three daughters: Sáráhkku “the protector of mothers” who lives under the fireplace, and is reponsible for placing the baby in the womb. Uksáhkká  “the door goddess”, who lives under the doorstep and guards the home against all evil, she is involved in the childbirth. The third daughter is Júksáhkká “the bow woman” who takes care of the child after birth. plays a part in the creation of children and can transform an unborn child into a boy
